How do I estimate how many photos I have?
Please do not count them one by one! That takes forever. Instead, use these simple "Rules of Thumb" to get a quick estimate:
- The "Inch" Rule: Stack your photos up. 1 inch of photos is approximately 100 photos.
- The "Shoebox" Rule: A standard shoebox usually holds about 1,000 photos.
Have a mix of photos, tapes, and slides?
It can be tricky to figure out which kit covers a mix of different formats. Use our Package Calculator to plug in your estimates and see exactly which size kit is right for you.
We have designed our process to be as simple and safe as possible. Here is how it works in 4 easy steps:
- Order Your Kit: Select the size that fits your photo collection (check out our All-in-One Digitization Kit or Express Scanning Kit).
- Pack Your Memories: We send you a sturdy, crush-proof box with a prepaid return shipping label. Simply fill it with your photos or film.
- Ship It Back: Drop the sealed box off at the shipping carrier. We track it every step of the way to our facility.
- Relive the Moments: Our team professionally digitizes your items by hand. We then ship your original media back to you, along with your new digital files (available via cloud download or USB/DVD).
The right choice depends on what media you have and your goals for quality.
1. Choose All-in-One Digitization Kits for Quality & Variety (Recommended)
This is our premium archival service.
- What it covers: Everything. We accept printed photos (up to 8.5 x 11 inches), slides, negatives, video tapes, film reels, audio, DVDs, and more.
- Quality Upgrade: Photos are scanned at 1200 DPI. This delivers 4x the resolution of our Express scanning.
- The Verdict: We recommend this for most families. The higher resolution ensures your memories are preserved with enough detail for large prints, photo restoration, and future generations.
2. Choose Express Scanning Kits for Speed & Value
This is our streamlined option designed for standard snapshots.
- What it covers: Loose printed photos only.
- Size Limits: We scan photos from 2 x 3 inches up to approximately 8.5 x 11 inches.
- What it excludes: We cannot process slides, negatives, video tapes, or albums in this kit.
- The Verdict: Perfect if you just have a shoebox of standard 4x6 prints and want them digitized quickly and affordably.
You have one full year from the date of purchase to send in your kit. Take your time to gather and organize your memories!
If it has been more than one year:
Your order has technically expired, but you can still use your kit. Please contact us to pay a small fee to reactivate your shipping label, and we will get you back on track.
Turnaround times depend on which service level you choose. Here are our estimates (including shipping time):
- All-in-One Digitization Kits: Approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
- Express Scanning Kits: Approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
- Need it faster? We offer Priority Service (72-hour turnaround with UPS 2nd Day Air) and Rush Service (24-hour turnaround with UPS Next Day Air). Please note our Priority and Rush Services only support scanned printed photos.
Good news: You don’t have to wait for the mailman to see your memories! You will be able to view and download your photos via our cloud service as soon as the scanning is complete, even before your original items arrive back at your door.
Don't worry—you don't need to count every single photo perfectly!
If you send in more items than your kit includes, we will still digitize everything for you.
How pricing works for extras:
If you’re in between two package sizes, you can simply purchase the smaller size. This ensures nothing is wasted.
Any extra items will be billed at the same per-unit rate as the package you purchased.
We will email you an invoice for the difference, which you can easily pay online before we ship your completed order back to you.
